The coins found on bottles of Just Rum are inspired by military challenge coins - a tradition that dates back to the Roman Army. Throughout history, soldiers were awarded special coins for their acts of valor or to create sense of pride within a unit.

During the Vietnam war, a "challenge" culture arose. Out of a group of service members, an individual would ask everyone to present their challenge coin. Those missing one would have to buy the next round of drinks, or the challenger would buy if all coins were presented.

At Just Rum, our coins signify owner, John Hasbrouck's, service time in the army and the bonds that were formed.
